Loving Lately #1: Beauty

Sunday, April 16, 2017
Shit, is Gail really writing a beauty blog post? Hey, guys. A year ago, I didn't do my eyebrows, I never wore lipstick, and I didn't give a shit about how I looked. Oh, how things have changed... I've recently gotten into beauty thanks to YouTube and pure curiosity. Now, I spend all most of my savings on beauty products, and I may have turned into a lipstick hoarder, but whatever.

I like beauty products. They boost my confidence. So, today I want to share some of the products I've been loving lately. Here are my top beauty product picks:

#1 Naturals by Watsons Marula Oil Hair Oil (PHP 89)
Product description: The Marula Oil Collection from African, protect against harmful free radicals Marula Oil, which is rich in essential fatty acids and anti-oxidants. Its anti-aging properties are complemented with African Mafura butter for an effective formula that thoroughly moisturises and softens. The results are healthier skin and bouncier hair, all brought to you in the most simple and natural way. Provide hair and scalp an extra boost of moisturisation, and also helps to tame frizz. Perfect for use on fragile hair that needs added protection from styling damage. (Watsons)

I have shitty hair. Like, no joke, my hair often looks dry probably because I take hot showers and blow-dry too much. So, it's no surprise that I would need some help. I've tried other oil products before but they were all to greasy and heavy for me. You know when you can instantly tell when someone's wearing hair gloss/shine? Yeah, I hate that, so I'm glad I found this product. Watsons' Marula Oil Hair Oil is light, easy to use with its pump, and gives that extra shine without looking too forced.

Note: I have thick and frizzy hair, so this DOES work for me, but for people with thinner hair, they might not enjoy this as much because it'll just weigh their hair down.

#2 Belo Essentials Clinical Strength Antiperspirant Deodorant (PHP 102.75)
Product description: Stay fresh and odor-free all day using Clinical Strength Anti-Perspirant Deodorant Roll-On by Belo. It eliminates 99.94% of odor causing bacteria for a 48 hour protection against odor and sweat. Moreover, it is safe to the skin as it is Hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested. (Zalora)

I suffer from hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating. I've gone to my dermatologist and she has prescribed really strong antiperspirants for me, and they worked, but they were expensive as hell. When I saw that this Belo deodorant had the words "clinical strength" on it, I decided to give it a shot, not expecting anything because what could a regular grocery store item offer? I was pretty surprised by the results. One, it smells WAY better than prescription antiperspirants. Two, it costs more than 50% less. Finally, it freaking works. I have no had any issues with excessive sweating since using Belo Essentials Clinical Strength deodorant.

#3 THE FACE SHOP Oil Clear Smooth & Bright Pact (PHP 395)
I can say that I've been converted into a THE FACE SHOP lover. Having oily skin, I always find it a struggle to find powders that can mask or at least reduce the oiliness around my face. I have to thank my good friend Chad for encouraging me to try this because I am obsessed with it.

By swiping your finger across the product, you can already tell that it won't be heavy on your face, which I love. I hate it when it feels like I'm wearing too much product on my face. I've retouched several times during the day with this and never did it become cakey. Its coverage is also pretty impressive, giving you a smooth and poreless finish. For its smell, there isn't much to say because although it does have a certain powdery bathroom smell, it's pretty unnoticeable.

#4 Etude House Drawing Eye Brow Duo (PHP 498) and THE FACE SHOP Designing Eyebrow Pencil (PHP 225)
I used to be a loyal user of eyebrow powders but since I discovered these, my life has changed, because eyebrows are life. I always have to consider the amount of time it'll take me to applying a product, and with these two, I finish my looks faster and better.

Both products are dual-ended, but the THE FACE SHOP eyebrow pencil comes with a spoolie, while the ETUDE HOUSE one comes with a sponge-like tip for its built-in powder. Quickness-wise, I would go for the ETUDE HOUSE one just because it's really convenient to just fill in your brows with the powder. But if considering how long it lasts, I'd go for THE FACE SHOP just because it doesn't smudge as easily.

Here's a side-by-side comparison of me embarrassed without eyebrows, and me wearing ETUDE HOUSE's Drawing Eye Brow Duo. (Also on: Maybelline Powder Matte Lipstick in Plum Perfection, The Face Shop Oil Clear Smooth & Bright Pact)

#5 Maybelline Powder Matte Lipstick - Plum Perfection (PHP 299)
I love Maybelline lipsticks. For me, they're affordable and they come in all kinds of shades. But with that said, it can be challenging to find a shade that works for my kind of skin tone. Some shades look really pretty on the shelf, but look bad on me. So when I found Maybelline Powder Mattes in the shade of Plum Perfection, I was more than ecstatic.

It stays true to its name because it does feel like you're putting powder on your lips, which for some may be annoying, but the longer you wear it, it just feels like you're wearing any other matte lipstick. I wouldn't say that it has a completely matte finish, though, because though it is dry and not shiny, it looks more as though you had lip stain on.

It lasts an average amount of time but for the inner area of the mouth, it fades pretty easily. Packaging-wise, I love the powdery finish, but I don't know, I would appreciate some change or difference in the Maybelline lipstick packaging.

#6 Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip - Viper ($6) and Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip - Calypso ($6)
Hands down, Colourpop is the BEST lip brand that I've used. I actually ordered these online after seeing so many beauty vloggers rave about Colourpop, so I'm not entirely sure where you can get these in the Philippines. Anyway, I've just recently gotten into using liquid lipsticks, but it has always been a love-hate relationship because most liquid lipsticks are too messy and wet.

Colourpop's liquid lipsticks dry ridiculously fast, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. You won't have to worry about having to dry your lips or having it run down your mouth. BUT with darker shades, it's much harder to control. If you make a mistake, it's pretty hard to control the damage. But I'm willing to let that issue slide because these lippies are so gorgeous, so pigmented and so long lasting (Calypso can last an entire day and more).

Left: Calypso, Right: Viper

Calypso's a Satin Lip while Viper's a Matte Lip, but there's not much of a difference when they've dried. I think the only noticeable difference is when you're putting them on. The Satin Lip is thicker and harder to control. But whatever, I love them both immensely. I definitely need to get my hands on more Colourpop products soon.

Those are all of my beauty picks for now. I'm probably gonna be publishing another "Loving Lately" post soon because I'm always on the lookout for new products, beauty or not.

I hope you give these products a try 'cause I can promise you that you'll love them as much as I do. Comment below if you've used these products and what you think about them. Comment below too if you have recent beauty finds that you think I should try!

xoxo, G.
