Four Years of Blogging

Thursday, June 1, 2017

I can't believe it's been four years. Four years of trying to discover my brand, writing endless posts, getting inspired from the most ordinary things, and discovering myself in the process. You've watched me grow from an immature, always-ranting girl to a poised and passionate woman.

You might not know this, but I started this blog because I was sad. It was a time in my life when I felt like I strayed too far from the path I had imagined for myself, and I just felt hopeless. So to distract myself, I started this blog... Who would have thought that four years later, it would grow into something that I hold so dearly to my heart?

On my fourth blogiversary, I'd like to share some facts about my blogging journey.

Hey, it's Gail wasn't always Hey, it's Gail
My blog was originally called Scripturient because I had planned to fill it with short stories and poems. I was still stuck in my writer phase back then. After a year or so, I rebranded to Gail Aranas (so conceited, right?) and my blog was a huge mess. Then, I called it Musings of a Dreamer for a month because I thought it sounded cool... then finally, I decided to name it Hey, it's Gail because it was my Twitter username, lol.

I was a book blogger for most of the time
Yes, that's right. I filled this blog with so many sponsored book reviews. I enjoyed that for quite a long time, but I realized that I wanted a blog that was my own, and not something which felt like a job or obligation in the long run.

I was family friendly
No words like 'shit' or 'asshole' could be found here. My primary audience back then were young girls, so I wanted to keep it as clean as possible.

I almost gave up this blog
University drained me so badly and I felt like this blog was being a hindrance to me. I abandoned it for a few months, but I couldn't stop myself from wanting to write again. I'm glad I came back.

To be honest, I never thought I would enjoy blogging, but what really made me find happiness in it was the response that people gave me. When people would comment about how I helped them through something, or how a post made their day, those responses kept me going. Because at the end of the day, that's just what I want: to share stories, fiction or nonfiction, and inspire others to see the world in a different perspective.

This blog may not be the most profitable (lol) or the most popular, but I've created it with pure honesty. I've sprinkled my heart over this blog and I thank you for liking it, even if some of those parts aren't perfect.

I promise to stay honest, classy, and most of all, extraordinary.

Thank you for sticking with me for four years.

To give back, I've opened a GIVEAWAY, which you can find on my Facebook page.

  5. The first time I saw this blog, I admired it. It's so aesthetically pleasing. It's one of the types of blogs that's really catchy and classy. Unlike other blogs where it does not appeal to me and makes me bored to even check it out. But yours is wonderful. I love your confidence in writing, I wish I can have that. As I scanned through the pages, I can tell you're good with words. A true bibliophile. I was ecstatic to know about your giveaway <3 I love books so so so much. Yeah, nerd. Congratulations and happy anniversary! More power love :*
