Why I Keep Coming Back to Cafe Pilar - Cagayan de Oro

There are two cafes in Cagayan de Oro City that I would always confidently recommend. I've written about one of them before, so today I'm going to take you with me to my second favorite cafe in the city: Cafe Pilar.

A cafe for conversation

To be honest, I didn't want to write this because I wanted the cafe all to myself. One of the main reasons why I love Cafe Pilar is that it's never crowded, which is a stark contrast to most cafes that are always overflowing with overstaying people. It might be because of the absence of charging spots (bye, laptop users) but I'm not really bothered by that. Cafe Pilar is best enjoyed by coffee-lovers who go to cafes to catch up with friends, not to study or work.

Pretty good prices

There are some "big name" cafes that sell overpriced coffee, and sometimes, their coffee doesn't even taste that good. What surprised me about Cafe Pilar is that it serves some of the best coffees and cakes for really low prices. For less than P150, you can already get a huge glass of iced coffee that tastes way better than what famous cafes have to offer.

And their blueberry cheesecake? Still the best blueberry cheesecake I've ever had, and I've tried a lot of blueberry cheesecakes. (Wow, that's a lot of "blueberry cheesecake" in a paragraph...) It's not crumbly. It keeps its shape. The blueberry is always spot-on. Oh, and their slices are huge. What more could you ask for?

Natural light

To me, lighting plays a major role in setting the vibe of a cafe. Whenever I walk into Cafe Pilar, I feel relaxed and de-stressed. While most cafes struggle with lighting - some are too dim, while others rely on too much artificial light - Cafe Pilar is lucky enough to have just the right amount of natural light. Paired with clean interior design, natural light makes this cafe feel fresh, giving you a clear mind for whatever you need to deal with over a warm cup of coffee.

Speaking of interior design, Cafe Pilar's clean and simple look makes it feel classy and sophisticated. It doesn't aim to be Instagrammable, but you could still get a couple of pretty good photos with the cafe's white and brown aesthetic.
